Sun Data Management Software Review

A review on Sun Data Management Software indicates that that Sun looks at storage solutions as being integrated with data management. Sun seems to facilitate data management by building a storage platform to facilitate the data management aspect.

It seems that Sun focuses on active data and stored data that can be used and needs using. Yes, Sun data management software can store data on DAS, SAN, and NAS and in tape libraries and vaults but the company seems to be focusing on data management issues of active, not dead, data. The idea is that it wants business to be able to share access to its data, access to authorized users, and access to applications that deal with some data-handling capability for the storage devices themselves. With new storage architectures, data management and storage need to go hand in hand.

Today's storage products in the existing DAS, NAS, SAN and tape spaces will not be able to solve the future problems of shared data access. A recent Sun data management software review shows that Sun is a systems company and it is combining Solaris middleware, Galaxy servers and developing storage platforms to provide better data management solutions. This way, it is reported, that Sun is striving to develop its own and unique approach to using storage and data management.

However the Sun data management software review of their approach is receiving some complaints. Companies are saying that Sun should concentrate less on storage and think more about data management.

Companies feel that Sun should move beyond storage and think about how to manage data," Sun is making an effort to resolve this complaint. Following its $4.1bn acquisition of StorageTek in September, it will deal with the data storage issue and also look to expand financial services, telecoms, media and entertainment, education, government and commercial applications.

Sun data management software review also shows that since acquiring StorageTek they have put more emphasis on client demands than StorageTek did.

With these two companies combined there seems to be a huge opportunity for Sun and their business clients, because the top end-user priorities all revolve around data management. A smart move on Sun's part acquiring StorageTek also seems to be that half of StorageTek's revenue came from services.

In this Sun data management software review it is clear that there's very little value in taking just storage products to market when it comes to Sun. Combining the storage solutions along with the data management solutions offers customers a wide variety of opportunities for their business.

It follows that it is not just about buying and being able to use five terabytes of storage, it's about the actual management of the data.

Eric Murphy, Sun business manager at Sun VAR Interface Solutions, told CRN that a lack of Sun SME storage products is having an impact on the company.

"Because of the Sun products available at the moment, we have no choice but to go down the data management route," he said.
